Best VPS for MetaTrader and XAUUSD robots
A reliable VPS is the difference between a robot that runs all week and one that misses trades because your laptop went to sleep. Here is how to pick the right hosting for MT4/MT5.

Latency matters more than location
The right VPS is the one with the lowest ping to your broker's trade server. A London VPS is great for an FCA-regulated broker in London, but not for a broker whose server is in New York or Singapore.
Ping the broker server from the candidate VPS before you commit. Under 10 ms is excellent; under 50 ms is acceptable for most gold EAs.
Uptime and support
Look for a provider with at least 99.9% uptime SLA and 24/7 support. A robot that runs unattended needs a host that responds quickly if the machine freezes.
Some providers offer pre-installed MetaTrader images. These save setup time but always verify the version and security settings before logging in.
Hardware specs
For a single MT4 or MT5 instance running one EA on a few charts, 2 CPU cores and 4 GB RAM on an SSD is enough. If you plan to run multiple EAs, symbols or charts, scale to 4 cores and 8 GB RAM.
Windows Server is the standard for MetaTrader, but some traders use Wine on Linux VPS plans to reduce cost. That setup requires more technical skill.
Security basics
Change the default RDP password, disable unused accounts and keep Windows updated. A trading VPS is a financial machine; treat it like one.
Set up a daily restart schedule for MetaTrader to clear memory leaks, and use a separate email for alerts from the VPS provider.
Cost vs reliability
The cheapest VPS is rarely the best. A few dollars more per month for a provider with better uptime and support usually pays for itself the first time it prevents a missed trade or a platform crash.
Start with a monthly plan, test stability for two weeks, then switch to an annual plan if the performance is solid.
FAQ
Do I need a VPS for a MetaTrader robot?
Yes, if you want the robot to run continuously. MetaTrader must stay open and connected; a VPS avoids interruptions from home internet or power issues.
Which VPS location is best?
Pick the location closest to your broker's trade server, not your home. Lower ping means faster order execution and less slippage.
What specs does a MetaTrader VPS need?
For one or two MT4/5 instances, 2 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM and an SSD are usually enough. Running many charts or EAs at once needs more resources.
